Roberto Bosco is a young Italian producer with a short but highly impressive discography, citing labels such as Samuel L. Session’s Klap Klap, Orlando Voorn’s Night Vision and Len Faki’s Figure. Release Description:
Hot on the heels of The Unit, Harvey McKay follows up with the subterranean Substanz Underground single. The EP is named after a little after-hours warehouse in Glasgows Southside district, where he along with many of Glasgows burgeoning DJs and artists play on a regular basis. Substanz Underground, a venue that hosts many of Glasgows after-parties from Slams Pressure night to various others across an electronic city, is an incredibly important aspect of Glasgows music scene; one that Harvey pays his respects to.

B Class warms gradually, with clanking mechanical sounds and textures providing the back-bone percussion to the track, while fuzzy and raw hi-hats solidify the underground feel. These sounds appear on the arrival of a wonderfully balmy chord that glides in with ease. Upbeat but delicate is the air on the number.

Next up is Jon Virtues take on the McKay B Class original. Another Glaswegian, Virtue is most certainly familiar with the ambiance of Substanz. Notching the pace up somewhat, he keeps it dark and deep, but retains the groove of the original, working the vocal cut in amongst the chords and some heavy and distorted bass to give the track a little more energy and drive. Jon Virtue is definitely one to keep an eye on from the ever growing Glasgow Techno scene.

Mind Frame delves back to the roots and influences of Harveys musical career. Stripped, yet highly effective, Mind Frame captures a feel for these gatherings perfectly. Sub-heavy bass and an incredible, old-school hook leap from the speakers, while straight and upbeat percussion bash their way through. Again McKay retains groove and swing, but sticks to his own unique sound and style.

Harvey steps up to his best game on this EP and highlights what matters to him when it comes to his own productions; no-messing Techno.

Another debut for the new Bass Culture release. For BCR013, we welcome Sweden’s Joel Alter.

As a trained Violinist and composer for the Swedish National Theatre, Joel’s first steps into the world of electronic composition came with an exotic mixture of classical influence and modern inspiration, from acts such as Depeche Mode, Jean-Michel Jarre and Front 242. A key figure on the Swedish music scene since 1995, Joel has always seen his music as stemming from the meeting of a variety of artforms. His first steps onto the international circuit came with the signing of material to Int. DeeJay Gigolo and Minus. Since then, he has developed a strong relationship with Hamburg label, Room With A View, featuring on seven releases since early 2009, as well as releasing on Berlin based label Sweatshop. It was January’s ‘Preaching To The Choir’ on Room With A View, a track that became a firm favourite with D’Julz, and included on his Rex Club compilation, that lead to a request for an EP for Bass Culture. The ‘Silence Is Golden’ EP is a broad, four track selection, showcasing the sounds and style of the Swede.

The deep, popping-bass and crescendo hitting keys of the title track, are supported by the excellent ‘I Feel You’. A track that, uses the most recognizable of vocal samples, in a highly respectful and fresh way. ‘Love, Hope and Change’ is a haunting slice of melancholy, that shines through its elegant, cascading piano. One grand debut deserves another, and Bass Culture welcomes Daniel Stefanik with his take on ‘Silence Is Golden’. The man from Leipzig reworks the original into a late-night tribal-tech number, using its silky keys to perfection and retaining its air of elegance.
