The second single from Mme Alliens spring LP Dust, which is currently brightening up spirits still withered from a lack of light, arrives just in time to summon the rising sun. The summer is on its way, and that means its open- air season, complete with pollen-fuelled confusion, after parties under blue skies and visions of a better world. Our Utopie radiates this epic vitality, embodies the exhilarating feeling that something is just beginning here that affects us all: The sky, the taste… we count 1… 2… 3… and were still here. Eyes closed, breathing in the birdsong and feeling the breeze tingling through your hair as it only ever does in the morning hours of a world-class rave. Yes, you could call this an anthem of love. Using such a serene, floating synth line, a melody as soft as butter and a break which could bring the toughest of us to our knees, Ellen postulates her theory of soul-filled techno in a time of peace. Indeed, it would be hard to imagine anyone being capable of waging war with this sound ringing in their ears. So lets remind ourselves: make love… you know the rest.

This is immediately followed on A2 by the unanswerable question: Should We Go Home Already? Should we or do we have to? Do we want to? In any case, now is not the right time to make such a choice. Not yet… one more tune, one more cigarette, one more drink. But its also such a tricky question right now when planes are starting to merge together, voices are becoming blurred and the night is breaking into day. All shapes are elusive, all surfaces are glistening, everythings a mystery. But then the beat returns, restores order to the proceedings, to this game of multiple of sounds which wind around your head and are able to transform right angles into a gentle digital twittering. And there’s the voice of the siren again, getting lost amongst the layers as they pile up to monumental heights. Psychedelia 2010. What was that? Yeah, I think well stay for a bit actually…

At least for a lightly scampering house number like Ever. What else can happen now anyway? The confusion has gone, the daylight floods into our bodies and were just starting to reach the point of blissful dissolution. Existence feels as light as a feather right now, and the difficulties of the past can be distinguished so clearly… This must be one of those moments which we will remember when telling someone of the free and easy life of our youth, of a glimpse of being without wanting for anything. The glockenspiel flutters around the souls lying in the grass; organic textures nuzzle warmly around our necks and the cavorting bassline keeps our minds clear and alert. Only a Sunday afternoon on the banks of the Spree could sound so soft and fluffy. Surely the most pleasurable way to end an EP which answers to the name Utopia.

That leaves one last song, which rather than trailing off points out the onward direction. A new day bringing new light and a fresh chance. Searching gets off to a gallop with its tight bass drum and light-footed percussion, whilst the synths evoke the same sense of self-contentment that was established in the three previous tracks. Nevertheless, there is a growing tension inherent in Ellens bonus track, a reignited urgency. Her searching words disintegrate into a thousand different tones, a revolving polyphony which finally turns into a spiralling rave signal. Then a cautious break, little criss-crossed voices pitched in the heavens, hands feeling their way around. But then the next moment the kick springs back to life and the glowing bassline starts gravitating towards the sun, whose glistening rays perpetually hide its shape from view. A track which tells of searching for love and finding it: never has utopia been this close…

His mix is a great house tune that invites us to celebrate the party and it is a cool track to feel well and happy with. The Vocal sample is filtered in a nice way and has a cool hookline.

Also “”Materialistic”" keeps up that kind of house feeling, jitters and quivers alongside small bits of vocals and thunders of delays and walking basslines. This track has a nice Detroit feeling to it somewhere along the bassline and chords it makes Blake Baxter come alive.

Statra Recordings is back again in Deep House form with a spring forward EP by dirty Tuesday dons Sasse & James Flavour. Rumor has it that the guys met back at the beginning of the decade on the tennis courts of Friedrichshain Volkspark in Berlin and challenged each other to numerous sudden death shootout matches, but rather than either throwing a Mcinroe-esque fit, they finished drinking sect and eating pizza at James flat lat into the night, while delving jamming out to deep house. Thus the foundation of what will turn into one of the greatest production partnerships of the 21st century was formed.Fitting well into the sonic mould that Statra Twelves had made in the early 2000s, The Happy Ending EP is laden with swirling aquatic synth pads and grooves that will cause the dance floors to throb and melt. The EP begins with Comfort Zone awash with basic channel-esque amtmospherics, micro-sliced vocal stabs and pulsating sub bass, which coalesce into the ultimate in modern house sensibility. Next up, the EPs namesake tune Happy Ending, is cut from a fine silky early 90s house cloth. With its jazzy smooth chord stabs and spacious, smoothly punctuated drum programming, one could easily mistake this tune for some lost gem straight from the Paper Recordings vaults. To round things out and add of bit of Brooklyn grit, Statra tapped BK Co-inhabitant and long time pal Anthony Parasole for the remix duty. Parasole has been busy at work w/ Levon Vincent on their shared label endeavor Deconstruct, as well his House n Home Monthly event and DJing as member of the UQ collective. On the Mix, Anthony strips the tune of all accoutrement, pushes the kick to the an almost distorting grit level, and warps the vocal through a subway tunnel frenzy of echoed delay. The result is a monster dark and deep dance floor destroyer in an utterly deconstructed sense.

It’s not easy to describe the sound of Broombeck, or even to put it into one genre. It’s influenced by many different styles of music, combined with percussive grooves, deep bass lines, huge breakdowns and a lot of experimental sounds – it’s like a composition of various music genres that are combined to create a new track… and it’s all played LIVE. Broombeck is a solo project founded in 2008 by Marcus Schmahl, a true lifelong musician who has worked as a composer, sound designer and producer since 1992. As Broombeck, Schmahl has concentrated on the realm of Dance Music and has released on labels like Terminal M, Mistakes Music and Opossum Rec. His deep understanding of music allow him create an atmosphere and Live act that Sébastien Léger commented on with the words: “Broombeck’s live shows are incredible. Proper techno.”

Terminal M now presents the new ‘Deliverance’ EP by this dynamic, unconventional Producer.

“Theatre” is a brooding, darker track that unfolds like alien fauna, and gives us a taste of Broombeck’s softer side. “Theatre” is a very nice track for both warming up and slowing down a DJ set; a deep journey for the listener that pulses along over a futuristic and minimal landscape.

“Delivery” is high energy, intriguingly futuristic techno; it powers along with a thick bass and snarling melodies, ready to push the dancefloor to the next level!

“Q&A” begins with intense staccato percussion joined gradually by other elements, then to a short break before diving into one seriously ravey breakdown – combining elements of Electro and Percussive Minimal Techno into an offering of wild peaktime madness!

Also available digital only – “Delivery [Deep Version]” offers a stripped down tech house version of the original “Delivery”, a nice addition to an already very diverse EP package.

Lucy ( Luca Mortellaro ) – Biography

At 16, Lucy aka Luca Mortellaro embarked on his journey of musical creation, experimenting firstly with analog synths. From these humble beginnings he started performing as a DJ, creating a name for himself as an underground artist in Italy. Once he moved to Paris in 2006 he decided to fully dedicate his life to electronic music. Lucy attracted interest from several labels and in 2007 had his first releases. These early tracks drew the attention of renowned artists including James Holden. It was Holden who introduced Lucy’s work to Raphael Ripperton, prompting Ripperton to immediately release “Glass Computer” on his influential label, Perspectiv Records. Through high profile invitations to remix tracks for artists such as Gui Boratto, labels like Tic Tac Toe Records and featuring on Fabric 38 mixed by M.A.N.D.Y, Lucy garnered his international reputation. He was warmly welcomed aboard Meerestief Records, a relationship that has allowed him to continually develop his musical identity with several EPs. Significantly, Meerestief also invited Lucy to compile and mix the Submerge CD, released in February 2009. Collaborations with cutting-edge imprints including Curle Recordings, Ware, Time Has Changed and Brise inspired Lucy to launch his own Techno record label Stroboscopic Artefacts in September 2009, already supported by Speedy J, Luke Slater, Loco Dice, Len Faki, Edit-Select to name but a few.

Supported by giants of electronic music such as Joris Voorn, Dj Hell, Steve Lawler, Derrick May, Laurent Garnier, Agoria, James Holden, John Digweed and more, Lucy is confirmed as one of the most interesting newcomers to the underground scene.

Pepe Arcade is one of the younger better known artists in the Mallorca techno scene. His work in the balearic label Irdial music has helped the island to be considered a quarry of excellent producers of the country and day to day the number of label grows. He having dropped records on labels such as Irdial Music, Serial number 849 records, Upfront, Darkside, Sirius Pandi….In this release we found a bridge from the cosy confines of a studio to the outer spaces, with a collaborative proyect between Angel Costa and Dakpa. This original sounds are a convincing club-tracks, with lighter colours and a straight four to the floor drive….Deconstructed sounds, experimental tones…melancholy, and highly calibrated dancefloor precision where can be listened to from start to finish. Angel and Dakpa transforms the mood of the original track without losing its great melodic feel in amazing Dub techno sounds. Often when Pong musiq claims to be taking risks and trying something new, the truth is rather less remarkable. Not in this case: Pepe have created a terrifically original, inimitable trio of tracks that combine Techno and the avant-garde, the cerebral and the physical, to absolutely stunning effect. It might be unusual and it might be clever, but it’s still dance music pure.

The ever powerful combination of Funk DVoid and Sian deal out another dose of dance-floor on their latest EP, A Wasp in a Wig. Following on from the success of both the Ginebra and the A Raven Wheeling Overhead EPs this cements their place as heavyweight talents on Soma.

Sian is now becoming recognised as a truly unique figure in electronic music. His list of aficionados reads like a whos who of contemporary dance culture, from Luciano, Loco Dice, Ricardo Villalobos, Steve Bug, Carl Craig and M.A.N.D.Y to Sasha, John Digweed and James Zabiela. While Funk DVoid is well established in the techno fields, with a string of successes over the years (Jack Me Off, Bad Coffee Emotional Content, not to mention Diabla) & praised as an inspiration by a list of luminaries that includes Andy Cato (Groove Armada), Tom Middleton and Nick Warren. With such impressive CVs anything this pair produces is a sure-fire player.

The strikingly titled A Wasp in a Wig grabs the attention with sub-heavy, rumbling bass and wobbly synths, pierced by a very much wasp-like buzz. That buzz sends the track into a spiral before everything kicks back in with the track climaxing in a whirl of dark sound.

A Scream Dressed in Feathers offers a dark musical vision with deep bass melting into a range of swelling warehouse sounds. These industrial textures progress in wonkiness throughout and build tension with their distorted tones.
